Christy Camba, Flute
Venezuelan flutist Christy Camba began her musical training through the renowned Venezuelan System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs. She continued her studies at the Simón Bolívar Conservatory in Caracas and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance from the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE), where her research on Carl Reinecke’s Flute Concerto received a Publication Mention.
As an orchestral musician, Camba performed for seven years with the Caracas Symphony Orchestra, appearing in major concert halls across the United States, Europe, and Asia, including Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, and the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
She has worked under conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Christian Vásquez, Eduardo Marturet, Alfredo Rugeles, and Diego Matheuz, and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Venezuela. Her chamber music experience includes flute duos, flute choirs, woodwind quintets, and mixed ensembles, as well as performances at the Latin American Music Festival in Caracas.
In addition to performing, Camba has maintained a strong commitment to music education. She taught within Venezuela’s national orchestra system and later participated in the Iowa City Flute Choir. Today she continues her educational work through school music programs and private instruction while remaining active as a performer and clinician.
Christian Bohnenstengel, Piano
Praised by the German press as “a master of contrasts” and for his ability to place audiences “in a state of sheer awe,” pianist Christian Bohnenstengel enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, jazz performer, recording artist, and educator. His performances have taken him throughout the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia.
Recent appearances include Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Orchestra of Southern Utah, Richard Addinsell’s Warsaw Concerto with the Southern Nevada Symphony Orchestra, and Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. He is equally active in classical and jazz settings and is a founding member of Southern Utah University’s faculty jazz ensemble, Kind of Blue.
A frequent presenter at regional, national, and international conferences, Bohnenstengel has also appeared on public radio and has been featured on numerous recordings. Critics have praised both his collaborative artistry and his original compositions, which appear on recent jazz albums and chamber music recordings.
Originally from southern Germany, he earned degrees from Missouri Western State University and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he completed both Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. Since 2011 he has served as Director of Keyboard Studies at Southern Utah University, where his students have continued to prestigious graduate programs in the United States and abroad.
Javier Montilla, Flute
A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Javier Montilla has built an international career that bridges classical performance, Latin American music, chamber music, composition, and music publishing. He began his musical studies in Venezuela’s celebrated El Sistema program and later performed with youth orchestras and professional ensembles before joining the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra.
Montilla earned degrees in flute performance from the University Institute of Musical Studies in Caracas (IUDEM/UNEARTE), the University of Colorado Boulder, and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he completed doctoral studies. Throughout his career he has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician, and recitalist in North and South America and has collaborated with artists from a wide range of musical traditions.
His artistic interests extend beyond the traditional flute repertoire. A dedicated advocate for Venezuelan and Latin American music, he has performed with ensembles such as The Agermos CMP, The Mochima Ensemble, Projeto Novo SF, and the Pérez–Montilla Duo, presenting both standard and newly created repertoire. His work as a composer and arranger has further contributed to the dissemination of Latin American music for woodwind instruments.
Montilla is also co-founder of Montilla Brothers Music Publishing and remains active as an educator, performer, and recording artist. His performances have included premieres of contemporary works and appearances at international festivals, reflecting a career dedicated to both artistic excellence and cultural outreach.
